SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Sandra Jo Shiery became the first amateur to win a Ladies’ Pro Bowling Tour title when she upset top-seeded Tish Johnson, 205-176, Thursday night in the championship game of the South Bend tournament.
Shiery, the fifth-seeded finalist, won four matches in a row to win the $5,000 first prize and her first pro title.
The 24-year-old right-hander, a former member of Team USA, America’s national amateur team, had finished second in two previous professional events, including the WIBC Queens tournament earlier in the year.
