MARCHING TO HIS OWN DRUMMER
Walter Russell Mead’s review of Michael Harrington’s final masterpiece, “Socialism: Present and Future” (Book Review, Aug. 6) was an outstanding tribute to a man who single-handedly made the idea of Socialism acceptable and credible in the United States. Never a dogmatist, Harrington challenged the radical left in addition to the radical right. When he died last week at age 61, after fighting cancer for the last four years, this country and the rest of the world lost a great scholar and humanitarian. They don’t come any better.
