Guatemalan Teachers Get Pay Rise, End Strike

GUATEMALA CITY — Guatemalan teachers accepted wage increases of up to 35% last week and ended a 10-week strike that has kept 1 million students out of school, a spokesman for the teachers said.
The government agreed to raise teachers’ salaries 35% for those earning less than the base salary of $186 a month and 25% for those earning more, said the spokesman, Cesar Cano.
