Events in the news this week.

Final adoption of the county’s $2.9-billion budget for fiscal 1989-90 is expected at Wednesday’s meeting of the County Board of Supervisors. As part of the budget, supervisors are expected to end a freeze on hiring and to drop limits on travel and buying new equipment. The five-member board also is expected to confirm an early decision to build a new 6,000-inmate jail in Gypsum Canyon by certifying an environmental impact report on the project. A public hearing on the jail issue is scheduled.
