The California attorney general’s office posted a $10,000 bond with the U.S. District Court in Los Angeles that allows it to pursue an antitrust case against American Stores’ proposed merger of its Lucky and Alpha Beta supermarket chains . . . The number of working oil and gas rigs in the country jumped by 27 to 936 last week, according to Houston-based Baker Hughes Inc. A year ago, the count stood at 933.
