P.M. BRIEFING : Hungary to Get a U.S. Chamber

WASHINGTON — American companies operating in Hungary will create next month the first U.S. Chamber of Commerce in an Eastern European country, part of an intensified collaboration to steer the Hungarian economy toward a market system, U.S. Chamber of Commerce President Richard Lesher said today.
Lesher also told a news briefing that the U.S. Chamber of Commerce is negotiating with the government of Hungary to reform that country’s currency and taxes.
About 50 U.S. companies now operating in Hungary will create there the first U.S. Chamber of Commerce in an Eastern European country, Lesher said. He said he expects about 200 U.S. companies to “take residence” in Hungary over the next couple of years.
