Norwalk City Council members have voted to raise their monthly salaries by 10%. Effective April 17, council members will receive $760 a month, up from the $690 a month they now receive. The council last voted itself a raise in March, 1988.
In addition to their salaries, council members receive retirement and health benefits from the city.
The City Council vote Tuesday night was 4 to 1, with Mayor Grace Napolitano dissenting. The monthly salary is designed to compensate council members for expenses for city business.
