Speedskater Bonnie Blair, swimmer Janet Evans and gymnast Brandy Johnson head the list of finalists for the 1989 AAU James E. Sullivan Memorial Award.

With seven women on the list, it is the first time a majority of finalists have been female, officials said.

The other women are rower Kristin Karlson, skier Tamara McKinney, pentathlete Lori Norwood and diver Wendy Lian Williams. Hurdler Roger Kingdom, canoeist John Lugbill and wrestler John Smith are also on the list.
