If you’ve ever wondered what Americans possibly could have been wearing before Guess?, Calvin Klein and Body Glove arrived on the scene, plan a trip this week to Plaza Pasadena.
The “antique” fashions won’t be found in any stores, but in an exhibit titled “America Celebrates a Century of Fashion,” which runs in the mall from Wednesday through Sunday.
Twenty-three mannequins will be showcased wearing clothes representing styles from the end of the Civil War to the beginning of the Space Age.
Included are a boy from 1875 decked out in long curls and kilt; flappers from 1926 prancing in hand-beaded dresses and daring hemlines; a 1945 sailor in a white V-neck pullover and round cap, and a Southern belle on her way to a 1955 prom in a lacy lavender gown.
The traveling display, produced by Encyclopaedia Britannica USA, is especially recommended for school groups, which can make reservations for a guided tour. Plaza Pasadena is at 300 E. Colorado Blvd., Pasadena.
