Hall of Fame pitcher Jim Palmer, mounting a comeback at 45, threw to hitters Thursday for the first time since he retired in 1984. Palmer, who hopes to get a tryout with a major league team, pitched batting practice for the University of Miami. His fastball has reached more than 85 m.p.h. in workouts.
Palmer, who won 268 games with an earned-run average of 2.68 for the Baltimore Orioles, was inducted into the Hall of Fame last year.
