ARCATA, Calif. — This city’s status as a sanctuary for war resisters lasted only a week.
On Wednesday night, the City Council unanimously voted to rescind a resolution it unanimously passed Jan. 16 that gave the city sanctuary status.
The initial resolution was passed just after war broke out. San Francisco, Berkeley and Oakland also declared themselves sanctuaries for war resisters.
Arcata’s change of heart came after nearly half of the town’s residents signed a petition to rescind the sanctuary status.
