BONN — Industrial production in western Germany rose 5.3% in 1990 compared to the previous year, the Economics Ministry said today.
The ministry, quoting preliminary figures from the official Statistics Office, said the highest increase was recorded in the food and drink sector, with production 14% up from 1989.
Production of capital goods rose 5.8%, and the construction industry recorded a 4.2% increase.
Industrial production rose 5.8% in November-December, 1990, compared to the 1989 period, the ministry said.
The figures do not include the economically ailing eastern part of Germany, which joined West Germany on Oct. 3.
