Sixth-seeded Aaron Krickstein breezed past Amos Mansdorf of Israel, 6-0, 6-1, on the opening day of the Milan ATP Tournament at Milan, Italy.
In other first-round matches Niklas Kulti of Sweden defeated seventh-seeded Marc Rosset of Switzerland, 6-3, 6-4, Jacob Hlasek of Swtizerland defeated Todd Witsken, 7-6 (7-2), 6-2, and Thiery Champion of France defeated Mark Koevermans of the Netherlands, 6-4, 7-6 (7-3).
Krickstein said he is not worried about terrorist attacks stemming from the Persian Gulf War. “I am not going to change my schedule because of it,” he said. “Tennis is my job.”
Policemen patrolled the stands and outside of the Assago Forum as organizers stepped up security.
