Plans Moving Forward for New RTD Headquarters

RTD officials said Monday that plans are moving forward for construction of the bus agency’s new headquarters building on the east side of Union Station in downtown Los Angeles.
Negotiations on the project between RTD and Catellus Development Corp., owner of Union Station, are expected to be completed within 60 to 90 days, said Southern California Rapid Transit District board President Nick Patsaouras.
The headquarters will be part of Gateway Center, a transportation hub that officials hope will serve as a catalyst for economic growth around the site.
The RTD agreed last September to begin negotiations with Catellus on construction of its headquarters at the center, a combination public and private development project located on 6.5 acres. The cost of the Phase 1 tower is estimated at $120 million, with the total cost projected at $250 million. The parcel was chosen because of its proximity to several modes of transportation.
