Claremont : Cemetery Rates Going Up
The price of burial is going up at Oak Park Cemetery.
City Council members, who voted unanimously Tuesday to increase the price of plots and maintenance, said the hikes were necessary to make the city cemetery self-supporting.
The current city budget projects a deficit of $5,260 for the cemetery at Oak Park and Sycamore drives, and city staff members reported additional labor and material costs of $9,825 not in the budget.
The new rates are expected to produce an annual revenue of $10,876--largely as the result of dividing the cemetery into two areas with differing rates.
