California IN BRIEF : SAN FRANCISCO : Mission Bay Project Gets Final Approval

The Board of Supervisors has given final approval to the proposed 313-acre Mission Bay project, which would be one of the largest developments in city history. The project would create a neighborhood between Potrero Hill and the South of Market area where railroad tracks, warehouses and a few scattered businesses dot the landscape. Catellus Corp. plans to build offices, houses, parks, a school, a hotel, police and fire stations and retail centers over a 30-year period. San Francisco voters in November rejected a proposal to waive the city’s annual office-space building limit to allow the project.
