The Cal State Northridge men’s track and field team received a transfusion of sprint and hurdle talent this week when Wes Dunston, Mike Lewis and Stephan Flenoy were declared eligible to compete this season.
Dunston and Flenoy transferred to Northridge from Adams State College in Alamosa, Colo.; Lewis is from Chabot Junior College in Hayward, Calif.
“They’ve been in school since the start of the semester,” Northridge Coach Don Strametz said. “But it took this long to get all the red tape taken care of.”
Although Flenoy, a hurdler, will redshirt this season, sprinters Dunston and Lewis will be in action when the Matadors play host to USC, Stanford and UC Irvine in a quadrangular meet Saturday.
Dunston has run the 100 meters in 10.31 seconds and the 200 in 20.92. Lewis has bests of 47.2 in the 400 and 21.21 in the 200. Both are juniors.
Flenoy has run 14.32 in the 110-meter high hurdles and 53.15 in the 400 intermediates.
“(Stephan) could definitely help us this season,” Strametz said. “But we figure he’ll be that much more valuable to us next year as a senior.”
