An Atypical Case
In my opinion, it is an isolated incident and I don’t think in actuality it should tarnish the image of the LAPD, but I think it will affect community perception of it. I think people are going to reflect on that incident using their own experiences with the department. If they had an unfavorable experience, they’re going to use the King incident to justify the unfavorable attitude that they have. It’s a very sensitive situation, especially in minority communities where police relations are always on the edge.
Every department has its bad cops, but I don’t think this speaks for the average officer in the department. The community should have enough experience to realize that the incident is atypical of most LAPD operating procedures.
