Fullerton Adopts Water Conservation Plan

FULLERTON — The City Council unanimously adopted an emergency water conservation plan this week that will penalize businesses and residents failing to cut water use by 10%.
Under the five-part program, mandatory cutbacks will immediately go into effect if voluntary cutbacks fail to meet the 10% goal. Failure to comply with the plan could mean fines and the installation of special water-saving devices.
The first phase includes restrictions on hosing down paved areas and cutbacks in landscape watering. Restaurants are prohibited from serving water if not specifically requested by customers. The remaining four phases call for cutbacks of 15% to 25%.
A public hearing on the feasibility of the new restrictions is scheduled for April 16.
