PREP ROUNDUP : Capistrano Valley Storms Back to Beat Tustin

Travis Burgus hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh to tie the score and Capistrano Valley went on to defeat Tustin, 7-6, Thursday in the semifinals of the Newport Elks baseball tournament at Tustin High.
Jonathan Petke, who followed Burgus’ home run with a single, scored the winning run on a passed ball. Burgus (2-0) also struck out seven in the complete game victory for the Cougars (3-0).
In the other Newport Elks semifinal:
Esperanza 11, Mater Dei 7--Jason Hodges had three hits and five runs batted in and Jason Perez had two hits, stole three bases and scored twice for visiting Esperanza (3-0).
In other Newport Elks Tournament games:
Corona del Mar 13, Costa Mesa 7--Mike Susson hit a two-run home run in the third and Tim DeCinces hit a bases-empty home run in the fourth for host Corona del Mar (1-2).
Trabuco Hills 5, Mission Viejo 3--T.J. Alvarez hit a three-run home run in the fourth inning for Trabuco Hills (2-1).
Estancia 5, Foothill 2--Chris Watson (2-0) pitched 5 2/3 innings, allowing seven hits and had two hits, including an RBI double for the Eagles (2-1).
El Modena 8, Santa Ana 4--Danny White and Oscar Vasquez had back-to-back doubles to drive in three runs and spark a six-run rally in the fourth inning for El Modea.
Santa Ana Valley 4, Orange 2--Mike Nguyen (1-0) allowed no hits in three innings of relief for Santa Ana Valley (1-2), which scored the go-ahead run in the sixth on an RBI groundout by Roger Onofre.
Saddleback 12, Newport Harbor 11--Alex Madrid hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning and doubled and singled for five RBIs for visiting Saddleback. Shane Perluss hit a grand slam in the third inning for Newport Harbor.
In the Glendora baseball tournament:
Fullerton 6, Baldwin Park 3--Ladd Brunner and D.C. Olsen each hit bases-empty home runs in the sixth inning for Fullerton (2-0) in a championship quarterfinal game. In nonleague boys’ volleyball:
Huntington Beach 3, Newport Harbor 0--Matt Tatlor had 16 kills for host Huntington Beach (2-0), which won, 15-4, 15-4, 15-12.
La Quinta 3, Fountain Valley 0--Luke Pulliam had 10 kills for host La Quinta (1-0), which won 15-13, 15-13, 15-6.
Laguna Beach 3, El Toro 1--Chris Seale had 16 kills and 12 digs for visiting Laguna Beach (2-0) which won, 15-11, 15-6, 7-15, 15-3.
University 3, Dana Hills 1--Zolte Csanyi had 19 kills for host University (1-0), which won, 13-15, 15-10, 15-13, 15-7.
Mater Dei 3, Villa Park 0--Luke Halbur had 11 kills as the visiting Monarchs (2-0) won 15-12, 15-11, 15-12.
Cypress 3, Western 2--David Spegon had 19 kills for visiting Cypress (3-1), a 12-15, 15-3, 15-12, 12-15, 16-14 winner.
Esperanza 3, Long Beach Poly 0--Jason Galeener had 10 kills and six blocks as Esperanza, ranked No. 7 in Division 3-A, defeated No. 3 Long Beach Poly, 15-8, 15-8, 15-9, at home.
In Sunset League boys’ tennis:
Huntington Beach 15, Westminster 3--Bach Nguyen swept his singles sets (6-2, 6-0, 6-1) for host Huntington Beach (3-0, 2-0).
Fountain Valley 15, Santa Ana 3--Mike Cadilli and Corey Gibson swept, 6-4, 6-2, 6-1, for visiting Fountain Valley (4-0, 1-0).
In nonleague softball:
Saddleback 10, Magnolia 0 (5 innings mercy rule)--Junior right-hander Desi Abrego (2-0) pitched a perfect game, striking out 14 of 15 batters. The 15th batter popped up a foul ball to first base. Abrego hit a three-run home run in the third inning for visiting Saddleback (2-0).
Capistrano Valley 12, Santa Ana Valley 0--Jennifer Smith pitched a perfect game for Capistrano Valley (3-0) at Santa Ana Valley. Smith (2-0) struck out 15 of 18 batters and didn’t allow a ball to be hit out of the infield.
In nonleague golf:
Corona del Mar 193, Pacifica 236--Jerry Haack and Craig Welker each shot even-par 36 at Newport Beach Country Club for the Sea Kings (4-1).
El Toro 392, University 432 (18 holes)--Joe Garner of El Toro (4-0) shot a one-over par 73 at the El Toro Marine Corps Air Station course.
