McDonnell Douglas Sees Trouble Ahead: The Navy’s termination of the A-12 attack jet could saddle McDonnell Douglas, one of two firms developing the weapon, with $850 million in additional pretax losses, according to the firm’s new annual report. The company is hoping to avoid those additional losses by overturning through legal efforts the “default” conditions of the Navy’s termination. The company has already taken a $350-million charge, which was thought to be adequate if the default termination is overturned.
