Italian Crime Up 21%

ROME — Italy’s crime rate soared by 21.8% in 1990, according to figures released by the Italian statistics agency Istat on Wednesday. They showed a 15.7% rise in violent crime, with thefts up 21.7%. Murders rose 17.5% to 1,837, Istat said.
