Mega-Mall Status: With the opening of a new May Co. store and an additional wing of specialty retail shops, MainPlace/Santa Ana now has more than 1 million square feet or retail space--the unofficial mark at which a shopping center is considered to be a “mega-mall.”
The May Co. added 150,000 square feet alone when it opened last week. The department store is the mall’s fourth anchor store, joining Nordstrom, Robinson’s and Bullock’s. A new adjoining $10-million wing brings the mall’s square footage to 1.2 million.
