El Monte : Hearing Set on General Plan
The Planning Commission is overseeing the first major revision of the city’s General Plan since the plan was originally drafted in 1969, according to Harold O. Johanson, director of Planning and Community Development.
The General Plan is a broad blueprint the city uses to make decisions about development projects and land use. One trend in the revision is a reduction of building density, Johanson said.
“People tend not to realize how important the General Plan is until there’s a development across the street that concerns them,” Johanson said. “Now is the time for residents to have their say about what their neighborhood will look like.”
The commission will hold a public hearing on the proposed revision on May 20 at 7 p.m. in the City Council chambers.
