Buena Park’s Sundara, Doubles Team From Estancia Win Badminton Titles

Noy Sundara of Buena Park High School was one of three Orange County athletes who won titles at the Western Regional High School Badminton Championships Saturday at Cal State Long Beach.

Sundara defeated Stephanie Wo of San Francisco, 11-2, 5-11, 11-5, in the final of the girls’ singles division. Chau and Doan Nguyen of Estancia defeated Mana and Somphone Meksavanh of Nogales, 18-13, 15-8, in the mixed doubles division.

In consolation championship matches: Jemmy Tjio of Etiwanda beat Nghi Tran of Buena Park, 15-2, 15-3, in boys’ singles; Doa Phan of Garden Grove beat Amy Wu of Mark Keppell, 11-5, 11-1, in girls’ singles; Kolbe Khong and Thanh Ly of Troy beat Steve Hongj and Taek Le of Etiwanda, 7-15, 18-17, 15-11, in boys’ doubles; Jennifer Chiu and Tam Le of Buena Park beat Vicky Bevan of Rolling Hills and Trang Vu of Century, 15-2, 15-1, in girls’ doubles, and Ricky Tran and Tam Le of Buena Park beat Sang Kim and Phan of Garden Grove, 15-12, 12-15, 18-14, in mixed doubles.
