Isabelle Autissier of France was the first woman to finish in an around-the-world solo yacht race in Newport, R.I., placing sixth. Mike Plant, fourth overall, completed the 27,000-mile race in the fastest time ever by an American in an around-the-world race--132 days 20 hours 1 minute 2 seconds.
