A Lompoc woman driving the wrong way on the Ventura Freeway north of Ventura was killed early Sunday when her car slammed head-on into another car, authorities said.
Janet Contreras, 40, was driving north in the southbound lanes of the Ventura Freeway near Padre Juan Canyon at 2 a.m. when she hit a car driven by Antonio Mendoza, 20, of Oxnard, a California Highway Patrol spokeswoman said.
Contreras’ car came to rest in the center divider. Contreras, who had not been wearing her seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene, the CHP spokeswoman said.
Mendoza and his passengers, Enrique Vasquez, 20; Jose Martinez, 19, and Alejandro Garcia, 27, all of Oxnard, suffered minor injuries and were taken to Ventura County Medical Center for treatment.
