Teachers Return to Job After One-Day Walkout

Rosemead teachers returned to work Thursday after a one-day strike but said they will continue to press their case for a 4.5% salary increase through complaints with the state labor board and letters to parents.
Most of the 120 teachers in the Rosemead School District walked off their jobs Wednesday to protest the board’s proposed 3% salary increase and a medical package worth $3,900, which is $500 less than teachers wanted.
Suzanne Risse, union president, said she will file a complaint with the state Public Employees Relations Board alleging that Rosemead refused to accept the recommendations of a state mediator. The district says financial constraints prevent it from meeting those demands.
