NEWPORT BEACH — A BMW landed in the Newport Bay on Sunday night, but no one was injured.
“Yes, we have a car in the bay,” said Newport Beach Police Sgt. Ken Cowell, the watch commander. “Nobody’s hurt, and why they drove in there or how, we don’t know yet.”
Dennis Kidd, dispatcher at the Newport Beach Fire Department, said the driver of the car was believed to have gotten out of the bay safely by himself. Fire crews left the scene when it became clear that no medical assistance would be needed.
The mishap took place about 8:25 p.m. at 15th Street and West Bay Avenue. No further details were available Sunday night.
