Katella 2, Beverly Hills 1--Thanks to pitcher Corey Doll’s control and defense and a key play by second baseman Frank Montalvo, visiting Katella upset Bay League champion Beverly Hills.
Katella, 17-10 and the third-place finisher in the Empire League, will play host to Sunset League champion Fountain Valley (23-5) Tuesday. Fountain Valley defeated Eisenhower, 11-4, Friday.

Doll pitched a complete game, striking out four and walking one.
D.J. Sutton (10-0 with a 0.69 earned-run average before Friday), held Katella hitless for the first three innings, before allowing Orlando Gonzalez’s bunt single leading off the fourth. Sutton then retired the next three batters.
Pinch-hitter Frank Cortez opened the fifth inning with a single to right. Dax Dowling forced pinch-runner George Schalip, and stole second base. Dennis Briggs walked, and Kyle Evans followed with a single, scoring Dowling. Doll reached on third baseman’s Bryan Urda’s third error of the game, loading the bases.
