More on Madonna

As Peter Frega wrote in the May 12 Letters section, “the seeds of genius . . . possess the power to move generations.” Only when Kevin Costner sells out stadiums around the world, has its young people dressing in his image and has his face postered on their bedroom walls might I believe that the sum of his career may equal one act of Madonna’s Blond Ambition Tour concerts.
She may not have the power, or rather the inclination, to tug at the motion picture academy’s heartstrings, but certainly no one has more power to move my generation (I am 20).
That my assertions about Madonna’s value and impact will be met with laughter from some and be lauded by others is proof of their validity. As Oscar Wilde once wrote, “Diversity of opinion . . . shows that the work is new, complex and vital.” Enough said.
