Long Beach City College’s balanced men’s team won its ninth California Community College Track and Field Championship at Sacramento. Long Beach, scoring in 13 of the 21 men’s events and winning crucial places in the final two events, the triple jump and high jump, totaled 120 points.
El Camino College of Los Angeles captured the women’s title with 90 points, 10 more than second-place Taft.
Jeff Laynes of Merritt College in Oakland won the 100- and 200- meter dashes, his 100 clocking of 10.20 seconds equaling the best legal time in the world this year. Laynes’ 200-meter time was 20.78.
Melford Homeia of Riverside won the 1,500 in 3:52.77 and came back less than 90 minutes later to take the 800 in 1:50.61.
