Noriega Case Defendant to Plea-Bargain

MIAMI — A co-defendant of Manuel A. Noriega who was convicted of trading arms for U.S.-bound cocaine under the former Panamanian leader’s protection has agreed to cooperate with prosecutors, his attorney confirmed Thursday.
Brian Davidow, 29, whose family owns a Miami real estate company, faces a maximum 40 years in prison after his March conviction on two drug-trafficking counts in the Noriega case. He was set to be tried next month on a separate cocaine-smuggling indictment.
Davidow, who remains free on bond, becomes the fifth Noriega co-defendant to agree to cooperate with the U.S. attorney’s office.
Davidow’s attorney, Richard Sharpstein, said that his client would plead guilty, probably sometime next week, to one of two counts in the second case, and expected a government recommendation for all of his sentences to run concurrently.
In exchange, Davidow is cooperating with Noriega’s prosecutors, the lawyer said.
