CALIFORNIA IN BRIEF : YUBA CITY : Recall Effort Begun Over Weapons Issue
- Share via
Residents have launched a petition drive to oust newly elected Sheriff Art Brandwood, who advocates limiting the number of concealed weapons permitted in this rural county. Tom Pelfrey, 57, a leader of the recall effort, said he hopes to gather nearly 6,000 signatures to put a recall measure on the November ballot in Sutter County. Sutter County has the highest number per-capita of concealed weapons permits in California--about 1,350 in a population with 65,000. Los Angeles County, for example, has about 8.8 million people but has issued only 65,000 permits, or 0.7%. In Sutter County, about 2% of the people have been given permission to carry concealed weapons.
