Countywide : Meeting Planned on Alcohol, Drugs

An alcohol and drug abuse symposium focusing on the county’s Latino community will be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at Ventura College on the 4600 block of Telegraph Road in Ventura, organizers said.
The conference will include workshops on family denial and its effects on children, and alcohol use among Latinos, as well as a report on how to combat alcohol and drug abuse among Latinos in Ventura County.
The keynote speaker will be Juana Mora, a scholar in Latino alcohol studies at Cal State Northridge. She will speak on “Marketing Disease to Latinos.”
The bilingual conference is sponsored by El Concilio del Condado de Los Angeles, a Latino support organization. It will also feature a play in Spanish, “Ni una mas, “ written and directed by Armando Garcia, California Arts Council artist-in-residence.
