The Very Best: An impressive array of stars, producers, directors and writers cared enough to attend the very best of salutes to the first 40 years of the “Hallmark Hall of Fame” Friday night at UCLA. James Stewart, Glenn Close, James Garner, James Woods, Richard Thomas, Ellen Burstyn, Roddy McDowall and Piper Laurie were among the big names that watched clips from award-winning Hallmark productions and saw stars perform live excerpts from past shows. The card company was praised for its commitment to quality television. Stewart noted that he wanted to write a poem for the occasion but gave up because “I couldn’t think of anything that rhymed with Hallmark.”
