Blue-Collar Workers Hit Harder by Recession, Poll Says: What has been billed as the white-collar recession has hit blue-collar workers even harder, according to a survey by an advertising agency. Among the blue-collar workers earning less than $20,000, 53% said they knew someone who was laid off, compared to 43% of the white-collar group earning $50,000 or more. The nationwide poll by the New York advertising firm Warwick Baker & Fiore also showed that fewer than a third of the 1,004 people surveyed thought that the recession will be over in 1991.
