Boyhood Friends Reunited at Hospital After 50 Years

Two 72-year-old men who were boyhood friends in Hungary were reunited after more than 50 years recently in the emergency room at San Gabriel Valley Medical Center in San Gabriel.
Miklos Moldvan, who now lives in San Gabriel, had come to the emergency room feeling ill. When he heard Karoy Palatinus in the next bed speaking Hungarian, the two began to talk.
The men realized that they were not only school buddies but also had played on the same professional football team in Budapest. Both were born on Aug. 7, 1919.
Palatinus, being treated after a fall, still lives in Hungary but was visiting his daughter in San Marino. Palatinus speaks little English so the men reminisced in Hungarian, a hospital spokesman said.
A hospital spokesman said it was a tearful reunion for the two men.
