Glendale to Enforce License Plate Rules Strictly

Motorists in Glendale who fail to attach a front license plate or do not display a current registration sticker on their vehicles will receive traffic tickets under a new crackdown on scofflaws, police announced.

Lt. Ray Edey, the department’s Traffic Bureau commander, said he has ordered officers to begin issuing citations, instead of warnings, because “it’s reached a point where it’s almost an epidemic problem.”

Edey said front license plates, required under California law, can help officers identify stolen vehicles and aid crime witnesses in describing a suspect. He said many Glendale motorists have not installed a front plate for cosmetic reasons or have failed to report that their plate has been lost or stolen.

Motorists can be fined $25 for a parked car that lacks a front plate, or current registration, and up to $100 if the car is moving when the violation is spotted by an officer, Edey said.
