Loara Makes Life Miserable for Canyon in 23-0 Victory

ORANGE — Loara’s defense manhandled Canyon quarterback Brian Jalowiec and the rest of the Comanche offense for a 23-0 nonleague victory Friday night at El Modena High School.
The Saxons (3-0) sacked Jalowiec nine times for 66 yards in losses. Coincidentally, the minus 66-yard total was the Canyon (1-2) net yard rushing total. The Comanches had only 74 yards in total offense.
Loara’s defense also provided the game’s first touchdown when 6-foot-1, 275-pound defensive tackle Bryant Jackson blocked Jeff Brunswig’s quick kick on the Comanche 15, caught the ball in midair on the 10 and rumbled into the end zone for a 7-0 lead in the first quarter.
Loara made the score 14-0 on Denison Dawson’s six-yard touchdown run with 4 minutes 32 seconds left in the second quarter, and the Comanches provided two more points on a safety when a snap sailed over punter D.J. Marshall’s head and out of the end zone shortly before halftime.
Loara defenders Angelo Lubino, Jason Ortiz, Curt Peil, Chris Yi, Jason Wright, Aaron Yeow and Jackson continued to make life miserable for Jalowiec in the second half. Ortiz scored the final Saxon touchdown on a seven-yard run with 5:59 left in the game.
