Your Stage Watch column concerning the casting of “Madama Butterfly” at the Music Center (Sept. 22) came as a surprise.
In it, playwright David Henry Hwang is quoted: “There is no particular need to protest a Caucasian playing Madama Butterfly.”
Maria Ewing, who sings Butterfly at the Music Center, is of African-American origin.
