A Mexican national was struck and killed early Saturday as he attempted to run across fog-shrouded Interstate 5 near Coronado Avenue, a California Highway Patrol spokeswoman said.
Martin Ramirez-Lopez, 26, of San Ramon, Mexico, died instantly when he was hit by a car driven by Paul E. Sorensen, 20, of Chula Vista. According to CHP investigators, Sorensen received minor injuries and was taken to Scripps Memorial Hospital in Chula Vista by another motorist.
Sorensen was driving north on I-5 when Ramirez-Lopez ran eastward into the path of his car about 5:40 a.m., the CHP said.
