They named her Kaitlin Jane VanderKolk.
Ventura County Supervisor Maria VanderKolk had her first baby at 7:14 p.m. Wednesday at Los Robles Regional Medical Center in Thousand Oaks, said VanderKolk’s administrative aide Doug Johnson.
Kaitlin, who was delivered by Cesarean section, weighs 9 pounds, 3 ounces and measures 22 inches long.
VanderKolk, 26, who represents the 2nd District, was working Wednesday afternoon until she visited her doctor. She checked into the hospital at 3 p.m.
“They thought, ‘Well, this is the time,’ ” Johnson said, adding that the original due date was Oct. 14.
VanderKolk and the baby “are doing terrific,” and will remain in the hospital for a few days before going home, he said.
As for VanderKolk’s husband, Mike, “He’s great. He’s excited. He’s calling a whole bunch of people. He’s tickled,” Johnson said.
