12 Residents Win More Money for Properties

Twelve residents of a Santa Clarita retirement community scored a partial victory at the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors meeting Tuesday when Supervisor Mike Antonovich directed county employees to offer them more money for their property.
The 12 were the only holdouts of 244 households that are to have slices of their properties condemned to make way for widening and improvement of Whites Canyon Road and Via Princessa.
Over their objections, Antonovich and the other supervisors agreed to let the condemnation proceed, but said the county Department of Public Works must offer more than the previous $144,000 bid for the 12 properties, about $12,000 apiece.
Three of the residents who spoke at Thursday’s hearing said they were angered to learn that some neighbors had been offered as much as $20,000.
