Romero tells us she chose to protect “one of her own” but admires Hill for doing the opposite. What we have here is yet another example of contemporary intelligentsia who cannot act according to principle but act according to expediency. But more significantly, the solution to all of our problems resides in external factors--never the self. Oh, Emerson--where is thy self-reliance?
