Montreal Awards: “The Secret Face,” a Turkish entry about a photographer’s search for an enigmatic woman, took the top prize at the 20th annual Montreal International Festival of New Cinema and Video. The jury, giving the $4,400 award for best feature to director Omer Kavur, praised the construction of his film, “which draws the viewer through space and time in an obsessional voyage of initiation.” Named best documentary was “Hearts of Darkness,” a feature-length look at the shooting of Francis Ford Coppola’s disaster-plagued “Apocalypse Now.”
