Weekend Box Office : ‘Hand’ Rocks ‘Hook’ Out of First

Two new films shook up the box-office standings that had been fairly unchanged since before the holidays. “The Hand that Rocks the Cradle” knocked Steven Spielberg’s “Hook” from the top perch after five weeks as No. 1. “Kuffs,” starring Christian Slater, debuted in fifth place.
* “Fried Green Tomatoes,” with an ensemble of major female stars, continued to play strongly on 35 screens.
