Hal Lieberman has been named executive vice president of production at Universal Pictures, a division of Universal City-based MCA Inc.

Casey Silver, president of production, said Lieberman will “work closely with filmmakers in producing quality films for sensible budgets.”

Lieberman joined Universal in 1987 as director of production and was later named senior vice president. He has supervised such films as “Fried Green Tomatoes” and “Problem Child.”
