La Puente : City to Sponsor Run

In an attempt to bolster its image in the San Gabriel Valley and increase community involvement, the city has agreed to sponsor a combination 5-K and 10-K run this fall.
On a 3-1 vote, the City Council approved a pledge of about $2,500 to fund the event, tentatively scheduled for October or November. The race would start in the downtown area.
Councilman Manuel Garcia cast the dissenting vote. He urged the council to table the issue until discussions could be held with the Greater La Puente Valley Chamber of Commerce and other local organizations to help coordinate and sponsor the event.
Councilman Charles H. Storing was absent.
