THE SPHINX OF CITY HALL

I know the mayor has done good things for the city and is a dignified and compassionate man, guilty only of being as opportunistic as other politicians when it comes to feathering his own nest. But somehow he reminds me of that character in “Catch-22”--the one who rode in the lead jeep every time the Americans liberated another Italian city. His uniform was always immaculate, he looked the part and he was rather ludicrous.
